‘My Sugar Is So Refined’ – Hot Ginger Radio Show #1

Our first Hot Ginger Radio Show with featured artist Charlie Barnet, plus tunes by Johnny Mercer, Billie Holiday, The Cats and the Fiddle and much more…

Unfortunately, this show is no longer available. It disappeared from the Rhubarb Radio servers before we had time to copy it – and we lost our own copy. If it ever shows up again, we’ll link it up. Otherwise, we’ll replicate the show for our first anniversary!

This is retromance…

It was our first night of 2010 and we hit the ground running with a hell of a party. Over 130 of you squeezed in to that upstairs space to dance, drink and just soak up the atmosphere. That’s a steep rise on the previous two nights. Looks like word is getting round about the biggest swing night in town!

Lots of new faces too, and some of you had seen the feature in the Birmingham Evening Mail about us, talking about the nationwide surge of interest in swing dancing and the vintage scene.

The team behind the bar were making up jugs of our special ‘Hot Ginger’ cocktail all night and there were only a couple of periods when the jugs ran dry. It will be better next time. They’re starting to get the hang of how much demand there is for it.

There were a couple of complaints about lack of space on the dance floor. We’re starting to be victims of our own success!

So next month we’re going to make more dance floor space on the mezzanine upstairs. A few beginners who were obviously a bit self conscious were up there dancing in the spaces between the sofas. I don’t know why, because the big thing about Hot Ginger has always been that anyone and everyone has hit the dance floor, even people who’ve never had a Lindy Hop lesson!. But if you’d rather dance in a quieter spot, or just want the extra space, we hope some of you will head upstairs.

Check out all the photos from the night on Facebook and onMySpace (thanks to Kerstin, Lorna, Jim and Louise).

Lots of great feedback from you all. Keep the comments coming:

Gill – Great do last night!

Katie - Had a wonderful time at Hot Ginger last night!

Louise – FAB night. Much Fun was indeed had. Can’t wait until next month!

LinGood nite, pity some of this crowd don’t travel to other clubs. There’s a lot more out there!!

ChristianGreat night with brilliant music and crowd, not to be missed if you want a time machine back to a jumpin jivin era. Roll on the 13th!

We’ll see you all again on 13th March for our Prohibition Party (think gangsters, molls, that kind of thing).
