This is retromance…

It was our first night of 2010 and we hit the ground running with a hell of a party. Over 130 of you squeezed in to that upstairs space to dance, drink and just soak up the atmosphere. That’s a steep rise on the previous two nights. Looks like word is getting round about the biggest swing night in town!

Lots of new faces too, and some of you had seen the feature in the Birmingham Evening Mail about us, talking about the nationwide surge of interest in swing dancing and the vintage scene.

The team behind the bar were making up jugs of our special ‘Hot Ginger’ cocktail all night and there were only a couple of periods when the jugs ran dry. It will be better next time. They’re starting to get the hang of how much demand there is for it.

There were a couple of complaints about lack of space on the dance floor. We’re starting to be victims of our own success!

So next month we’re going to make more dance floor space on the mezzanine upstairs. A few beginners who were obviously a bit self conscious were up there dancing in the spaces between the sofas. I don’t know why, because the big thing about Hot Ginger has always been that anyone and everyone has hit the dance floor, even people who’ve never had a Lindy Hop lesson!. But if you’d rather dance in a quieter spot, or just want the extra space, we hope some of you will head upstairs.

Check out all the photos from the night onĀ Facebook and onMySpace (thanks to Kerstin, Lorna, Jim and Louise).
